The Wimba Collaboration Suite

During Semester 1 & 2 2010, we piloted the Wimba Collaboration Suite. The suite includes 4 products that combine 'interactive technologies such as voice, video, podcasting, instant messaging, application sharing, polling, and whiteboarding' :
  • Wimba Classroom™ 6.1 - virtual learning environment that includes audio, video, application sharing and content display - brochure
  • Wimba Pronto™ 3.0 - instant messaging system designed for educators to advance and promote learning – with whiteboard - brochure
  • Wimba Create™ - content authoring software that easily converts Word documents into content for online courses - brochure
  • Wimba Voice™ 6.0 - an audio solution that supports traditional communicative styles of language learning for online learning – with an integrated gradebook - brochure. Although part of the collaboration suite, this component is already in a production environment therefore not part of the S1 2010 pilot.

Based on 2010 evaluation results, the pilot for Wimba Classroom was extended into 2011 and expanded into an "open pilot" format. This meant access was provided to all UNSW staff and students via Blackboard and Moodle LMS integrations. So as long as your staff/students/participants are officially enrolled in a course code, then you were able to schedule a virtual meeting with them using Wimba Classroom. The "open" pilot for Wimba Classroom officially finished on the 31st December 2011.
