Course Role Privileges & Course Access information



1. Instructor
  • 1.1 Instructor Privileges
    • * Access to all parts of the course
    • * Ability to add, modify or delete all parts of the course
    • * Complete access to Evaluation area
    • * Ability to Export / Archive, Import Course Packages
    • * Copy course materials into an existing course
    • * Edit course properties i.e. change the course availability status and start/end dates
  • 1.2 How to access the course as an Instructor?
    • * Login to Blackboard
    • * Go to the “Blackboard Home” Tab
    • * In the “My Courses” module, you will see the course (“Course Code and Name”) you are teaching.
    • * Click on the course to enter into the course.


2. Teaching Assistant
  • 2.1 Teaching Assitant Privileges
    • * Access to all parts of the course
    • * Ability to add, modify or delete all parts of the course
  • 2.2 How to access the course as an Teaching Assitant?
    • * Login to Blackboard
    • * Go to the “Blackboard Home” Tab
    • * In the “My Courses” module, you will see the course (“Course ID: Course Name”) you are a TA.
    • * Click on the course to enter the course.


3. Course Builder
  • 3.1 Course Builder Privileges
    • * Access to all parts of the course
    • * Ability to add, modify or delete all parts of the course
    • * Ability to Export / Archive, Import Course Packages
    • * Copy course materials into an existing course
    • * Complete access to Evaluation
    • * Ability to "enrol/unenrol" as an "Instructor" into a course (Course Builder need to enrol as an Instructor in order to access the content management system)
  • 3.2 How to access the course as an Course Builder?
    • * Login to Blackboard
    • * Go to the System Admin Tab
    • * Click on Courses
    • * Search for your course by either using the course ID or Course Name option
    • * Once you find your course, click on the course ID to go into your course.
    • NOTE: Please note currently course builder have a restricted access to courses belonging to specific school or faculty to which they are assigned.


4. Tutor
  • 4.1 Tutor Privileges
    • * Read access to Course Materials
    • * Read access to Content areas within the course
    • * Read access to Course Module page
    • * Manage access to some of the Course Tools.
    • * Read access to Announcements, Blogs, Journals, Groups
  • 4.2 How to access the course as an Tutor?
    • * Login to Blackboard
    • * Go to the “Blackboard Home” Tab
    • * In the “My Courses” module, you will see the course (“Course ID: Course Name”) you are tutoring (grading).
    • * Click on the course to enter the course.
